Trashformations, Central Oregon’s annual junk art event, returns to Pakit Liquidators this weekend, April 14th &15th.
Over the course of the weekend, artists, welders, DIY’ers, crafty and curious folks descend upon Pakit to turn leftover, broken, discarded or otherwise unloved items into something new. From functional furniture and whimsical garden art to welded metal animal scupltures and fine art, the range of creative reuse is inspiring.
Trashformations both demonstrates and celebrates resourcefulness through creative reuse of available materials. In a society that puts emphasis on being a passive consumer for the next big thing while tossing out the not so old thing, it can be satisfying to make something unique with your own two hands that can’t be found in a store and isn’t contributing to our ever growing waste stream.
This event is not limited to artists and welders – it’s open to the whole community, including poeple who want to work in small teams and children with adult supervision. Register at Pakit on Saturday or Sunday as early as 8am. Your fee covers any materials you want to use from the salvage yard and is usually donated to a worthy non-profit cause. Last year’s Trashformations event donated $500 towards The Environmental Center’s Kansas Avenue Learning Garden.
This event is not to be missed. Everyone is welcome, including spectators. Pakit can be an adventure, you never know just what you might find.
